A Pentagram Of Candles and Spectres is a romantic paranormal short story. It’s part of the Second Acts of Weary Warrior Women collection.

Description

I attended school with Dr. Landon Sikes. I know, you want to hear all about him—he had that magnetic charm. But this story is about me.

Back when Landon taught me to cross through the veil into the spirit world, things were already changing; my talent of calling spectres across into the world of the living was just beginning to be demonized. My teachers gave up trying to get me to stop invoking and cross over instead, but with Landon’s help—and a lot of encouragement from my grandmother beyond the veil—I was able to pass.

That’s why I use spirit invocation to teach my ghost-inclined students to cross the veil. Even though social pressure to stop invoking spectres is growing every day. Even though I could lose my job for it. Hence, the inquest. And what I did there.

Meet Pauline

Pauline was a teacher--she's dead now--but twenty years later, another young teacher asks for her story. Get lost in her memories as she chronicles her journey from bending the rules a little to smashing them in with a sledgehammer.

Explore beyond the veil

Crossing to the land of the dead is a necessity--how else would you learn a recipe from your grandmother, or research a project for school? Nevermind that some people aren't able to cross over, or if they can it makes them sick for hours. Everyone knows that invoking spirits to the world of the living is unnatural and the right kind of people never engage in it.
